This is Bordo, my portable turntable. I’ve actually been wanting to listen to records for a long long time, but it was only a couple of weeks when I firmly decided to do it. I had this weird dream, Francis and I were inside a thrift store and we each bought a cheap makeshift turntable. After I awoke from that dream, I knew it was a sign to finally get one.
Two weeks and a couple of Ebay, Google, and Multiply searches later, here’s Bordo the Sound Burger finally owning a little corner in my room.
I heard Sound Burgers are expensive. I mean, last week I saw an auction at Ebay International and I think it closed to about $250. Whew. Good thing I only got this for less than $100, I won’t tell how much exactly. The seller was really nice, I mean she even gave me some free LPs which included a The Smith’s Strangeways Here We Come.
After meeting up with the seller, I went straight to Bangkal (where everything is cheap and used, but who cares?) and grabbed some local pressings of awesome LPs. Plus, they’re cheap. I mean, people are throwing these away, well I want to hear them.
As of today, I currently own 26 LPs; some of which are still dirty, I’ll get down to that later. I won’t be like those people who treasure their LPs. My main goal anyway is to listen to them, so I won’t go OC over the place where I’ll keep them and stuff. Long as I could listen to them, they’re fine by me. Well, of course, I’ll keep them well.
Hello, increasing interests!
It’s true how they say that listening to records has that certain Wow factor. The pops and hisses and clicks also add that extra ZOMG! For now, I can’t stop listening to The Smiths, Jackson 5’s ABC, Janis Ian’s Between The Lines and of course, Engelbert Humperdinck. Oldies are awesome. I think I’ll buy more old records which your grandpa probably listens to. I’m going back to Bangkal to get those Pilita Corrales LPs. The Basil Valdez LP blows serious ass. I listen to “You,” and the next thing I know, I’m melting with that seriously creepy but addicting love song.
I’ll continue to get locally pressed LPs because they’re much cheaper. Like I said, long as I can listen to them, I’ll tap that. I’m actually also planning to order vinyls from my favorite artists! As in like I want stuff from Neutral Milk Hotel, Death Cab for Cutie, Daniel Johnston, Brand New, Owen, Minus the Bear, Joan of Arc. But alas, I need a credit card and some moolah.
Hello, Ninong on the States who’s probably reading this. Make me happy! Hahahaha! The perfect gift would be Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, American Football LP, and Of course, that Owen 4LP Package. Game, may links na yan sa respective websites nila. Hahahaha! Wooh! I don’t care if it’s brand new or used. Yey! Oh, and I also wouldn’t say “NO” if you also plan to give me Joan of Arc’s Boo, Human!, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin’s Pershing and Broom, and Rainer Maria’s Long Knives Drawn.
More or less, that’s a hundred bucks.
Oh look, I made a video of Bordo in Action! It’s awesome!

Hay, I still have a ton of things to do. But what the hell. I should be going to Ciciboy’s place now to watch House M.D. I can’t come back to LB tomorrow and watch it on class because my mom’s dragging me off somewhere to some gathering. Sigh. Oh well, at least I’ll do my work and watch that episode of House. I don’t even like House. My nose bleeds everytime I watch it. Oh well. School is school.
