I could spit on a stranger.

Hello, 90’s: In an Mmmbop… you’re gone.

I’d hate to admit it, but the first time I saw Hanson’s Mmmbop video, I immediately fell in love with Taylor Hanson. How was I to know that he’s a dude? He seriously looked like Melissa Joan Hart (who at that time, is my ultimate crush. Blame it on Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and re-runs of Clarissa Explains it All. Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt to admit that Drive Me Crazy is the first movie that I saw in the theaters alone.).

I think it was a week ago when this “Holy-shit-I-missed-Hanson” moment emerged. Francis and I were slacking off in front of the TV when “Where is the Love” started playing on MYX. It just struck me that I still knew the lyrics as if it was just yesterday when MTV had no lyrics appearing on the lower part of the screen.

For those who experienced the onslaught of poppy, good-looking, boybands of the 90’s–there’s always a debate. Hanson or The Moffatts? (It’s both for me. Though I’m a bigger Moffatts fanboy.) Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC? (Backstreet Boys, biatch!)

I wonder where my Hanson cassette tape is? I recently discovered my “Middle of Nowhere” MiniDisc and I immediately popped it on our huge MD-friendly component. Not contented with it, I went off and downloaded ‘Middle of Nowhere.’ I have to admit, ‘Middle of Nowhere‘ is an important album for me.

The years passed by and Hanson’s songs sucked eventually. So did The Moffatts, so did BSB, and so did *NSYNC.

Over the course of the weekend, I’ve moved from Hanson (90’s) to Eminem to Bread in terms of my musical wanderings. At one point of my life, I listened so hard to Eminem and Bread (though not on the same time, that would be fucked. Though now, I shift from Eminem to Bread seamlessly with my player), that during this past weekend when I just recently reminisced with discography torrents–I sort of had this emo moment. Hahaha! Seriously though, listening to Eminem again took me to this part of my life, and then when I started listening to Bread again, there I was again transported to that part of me in the 90’s.

Yesterday, I went to Ciciboy’s place to hang out and shit. Lo and behold, we managed to record some stuff for an EP. We picked 5 songs from the 90’s and recorded them. It was a lot of fun, really. We somehow bastardized these songs (in beautiful ways, haha), but who gives a fuck? DIY ‘Till we Die! Hahaha!

Hooray! The EP’s called “We Grew Up In The 90’s… Did You?” and you can download it for free! Hoooray! I’m posting it here, but you can also download it through my Multiply, or at DBTC…M!’s Myspace. You can click the album cover below, and you know what to do with the rest. Oh, you’ll need a WinRAR.

Don’t Bogart The Can… Man!
We Grew Up In The 90’s… Did You?

1. Hey, Sandy! (Polaris)
2. ‘Til I Hear It From You (Gin Blossoms)
3. Together Again (Janet Jackson)
4. Wicked Little Town (Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
5. Genie In A Bottle (Christina Aguilera)

Yey, we had a lot of fun doing the EP. Plus, it’s so lo-fi (meaning we practically did nothing, kidding.) We’re planning to do another cover EP, but this time it’ll be covers of different songs which came from Teen Movies! We just love the 90’s (and if you do too, and you like lo-fi shit, and some randomness along the way… then why not download and listen to us?) Oh, and if you liked it and shit why not tell your other friends to download it? Because it’s free, and it wouldn’t hurt if you let yourself be engulfed by the 90’s again, right? AMIRITE?!

In other news, our neighbor attacked us again. This time she bought two barangay tanods. I wasn’t there, but I actually feel bad for them Tanods. As for our neighbor, I just hope she feels good about making those two tanod climb up a hill just to knock at our door and tell us, “Oh, wag na kayong mag-iingay ah?

Next time she brings in the UPF, the cops, or (je-je-jeeen!) OUR PROFESSORS! (like she told us. Hardy-Har-Har!), I’ll make sure that I’ll be there… with a camera phone recording everything. This will be oh-so-fucking-fun.

Hi, thanks for your comment on my page.

I see Ned Vizzini in your sidebar — do you know if It’s Kind of a Funny Story is in bookstores?

@Aldo

Hello, sir! I managed to get all three Vizzini books at National Bookstore almost a year ago. I think It’s Kind of a Funny Story was about 380 something, but because of the sale, they slashed 20% off. Hooray!
